Track Team

My newest adventure is assisting with the Jr. high track team. Just what I needed to add to my busy schedule . This year the 6th, 7th and 8th grade came out in full force, 100 plus students. The first two practices were bitterly cold and most kids dressed appropriatley but some just don't listen, imagine that. I volunteered to take the longer distance runners 400, 800 and milers. There are a few good prospects that will go to State again this year. Last year there were only two 7th grade boys and about eight girls that went to State.

A couple of hard practices may weed out some, but I'll keep a positive spin on things when teaching some of the new runners. Who knows maybe a Ryan Hall or a Desiree Ficker will come out of this small central Illinois town.

Today we'll see what the weather brings. Yesterday a 20 -25 mph wind was blowing straight out of the south which made for slow times but good training. The kids really had to push down the back stretch. It was comical to see them after hitting the back stretch, the wind about made a few stop .

Only 1 week of school, then spring break. The 1st day back from break is the first track meet. We'll schedule non mandatory workouts over break. I'm sure a few will show up but we can only hope.

Until next time

Here's to you finding your Ryan in the rough!

But even if you don't find any with the physical talent of a Ryan Hall, I hope you can still teach them to think like a champion. It will serve them well long after they are done competing and have moved on to other pursuits.
